*******************************

Deborah never married and probably lived in Woolaston all her life. She wrote her will in 1816, around the same time her brothers, William and John, made their wills shortly before their deaths. She left what she had to her niece, Ann PITCHER, a spinster daughter of her deceased sister, Margaret, and husband Benjamin PITCHER. However, this did not include the houses which Deborah had received in the codicil of the will of her brother, John Worgan, as these were given to Deborah for the duration of her lifetime only...

"This is a Codicil to be construed? as part & parcel of my said Will I give & devise my said three? Messuages Tenements or Dwelling houses situate in Neverend wither? mentioned unto my Sister Deborah Worgan for & during the time of her natural life..."

....The reference to Neverend is most likely Netherend.

*******************************

Deborah died in 1837 at the age of 93. However, her will was not proved until either 1868 or 1878 [both dates are quoted in the documents], bypassing Ann, and in turn her sole executor, John PITCHER, and finally being proved by his sole executrix, Sarah Ann PITCHER. It reads as follows...

This is the last Will and Testament of me Deborah Worgan of the Parish of Woolastone in the County of Gloucester Spinster I give and bequeath unto my niece Anne Pitcher all my ready money and securities for money goods chattels and effects of what nature or kind soever and wheresoever situate To hold to her the said Ann Pitcher her executors administrators and assigns for ever And I do hereby nominate and appoint my said niece Executrix of this my will In …? ...The witness, Sarah WORGAN, might have been the widow of Deborah's brother, Edward. Arthur PITCHER may possibly have been the brother of Benjamin PITCHER, the elder, who was the husband of Deborah's sister, Margaret.

*******************************

The Rector's Census of 1828 shows that one Debara Worgan was living with her niece, Ann Pitcher. Presumably the two were close and this might explain why Deborah left her estate to Ann.
