SECOND CROWN COURT, THURSDAY, JULY 15. (BEFORE MR. SERGEANT MURPHY.) ....... BURGLARIES AT BRAMWITH WOODHOUSE, & AT MOSS, JAMES WALKER (17), and RICHARD BISBROWN (17), pleaded guilty to two indictments. By one they were charged with having, on the 18th of June last, at Bramwith-Woodhouse, broken into the dwelling-house of John Oliver, and stolen therefrom two double-barrelled guns. By the other they were charged with having , on the 19th of June, broken into the dwelling-house of Samuel Rudman, and stolen therefrom three shillings, one cotton handkerchief, and two ounces of tobacco. They were each sentenced to be imprisoned for six months with hard labour.

SECOND CROWN COURT. THURSDAY.-Before Mr. Sergeant MURPHY.
. JAMES WALKER, 17, and RICHARD BISBROWN, 17, pleaded Guilty of burglariously entering the dwelling-house of John Oliver, on the 18th June, at Bramwith Woodhouse, and stealing therein two double-barrelled guns; also with having on the 19th June, burglariously entered the dwelling-house of Samuel Rudman, and stolen three shillings, a cotton handkerchief, and two ounces of tobacco. Mr. WHEELHOUSE appeared for the prosecution. The prisoners, it appeared, broke into the dwelling house of Mr. Oliver on the 18th June, and among other things stole two guns. On the following night, they broke into the dwelling-house of Mr. Rudman, went into his bed-room, and one standing at the foot and the other at the head of the bed, with a gun each in their hands, demanded his money or his life. They were disturbed by some person passing the house, and escaped with the property named in the indictment. The guns used when committing the last burglary, were the same stolen the night previous from Mr. Olivers, and they were found in the possession of the prisoners a few days afterwards. To be transported for fifteen years each.

...It appeared that in 1863 the petitioner [William Elbert Dando] had sought for an introduction to the respondent [Sarah Louisa Dando, nee Oliver] from having seen her portrait in a friend's album and had at once proposed marriage to her. Her father, who was a large farmer near Doncaster, at first opposed any engagement, but soon withdrew his objections. At the end of three months, however, the engagement was broken off...
