The Display Cabinet containing Robert Jones' Medals

(Click the above image to view a larger version)

Robert Jones (1857-1898) was awarded the Victoria Cross for his
act of gallantry at Rorke's Drift. He also earned the South Africa (1877-79) Medal.

Robert Jones' medals are part of the Lord Ashcroft VC Collection and are on public display at the Imperial War Museum, London.

The Lord Ashcroft Collection also holds the South Africa 1877-79 Medal issued posthumously to the family of Sergeant Maxfield, the patient that Robert Jones was unable to save from the Rorke's Drift hospital, as well as the VC and South Africa Medal (1877-79) belonging to, then Lieutenant, John R M Chard, one of the officers who took command at Rorke's Drift. Chard's medals appear on the left and Robert Jones' are on the right.

In the centre is an Assegai (Zulu Spear) blade from Rorke's Drift, turned into a paper knife by Lieut. Bromhead (Officer in Command of B Company, 2nd Battalion, 24th Foot at Rorke's Drift).
