Occupation: 1901, Lodging House Keeper 67
After marrying William Smith, Blanche and the whole family used the surname, Ellen, which was her first husband's surname. The reason is unknown. On the 1911 census, she appears to be using the surname Gordon. (Her and her son, Cyril's, places of birth fit, she describes herself as a sister on the census and there is a brother living a few miles away. Also, her husband, William Smith alias Ellen, is listed separately elsewhere even though Blanche describes herself as a widow.) The Gordon surname seems to have been a temporary measure as she reverted to Ellen after this.
