Arthur PITCHARD - (died 1693)
Arthur Pitchard was a yeoman who lived during the 17th century and was married to Ann. The couple had seven known children and resided in Clearwell, near Newland, Gloucestershire. The family surname has been recorded as Pitchard and Pitcher in a number of different documents.

Arthur's wife, Ann, died in December 1690 and Arthur wrote (or probably re-wrote) his will in the following month [the old style date appears on the will]...
In ye name of God Amen the ffourteenth day of January in the yeare of our Lord God 1690 I Arthur Pitchard son of Clowerwall in the pish of Newland in the County of Gloucr yeoman being sick in Body but of sound & perfect memory and remembrance praised bee God ….. of my and making void all former Wills and Testaments doo make and ordain this my last will and Testament in manner and form following viz ffirst I bequeath my soul into the hands of Almighty God my maker hoping through the meritorious death and passion of Jesus Christ my only Saviour and Redeemer to receive free pardon and forgiveness of all my sins and as for my body to bee buried in Christian buriall at the discretion of my Executor hereafter nominated Item I give devise and bequeath unto my son Thomas Pitchard two Ewes? And to Thomas the son of my said son Thomas Pitchard one three yeare old Colt and to Ann the Daughter of my said son Thomas Pitchard one Ewe? and to Elizabeth the Daughter of my said son Thomas Pitchard one Ewe? Item I give devise and bequeath unto my son Arthur Pitchard two Ewes? and to Margret the Daughter of my said son Arthur Pitchard one Ewe? And to Sarah the Daughter of my said son Arthur Pitchard one heifer now growing? into two years old Item I give devise and bequeath unto Ann the Daughter my son James Pitchard deceased, the sum of ffourty shillings in money to bee to her paid when she shall attain the age of one and twenty yeares Item I give devise and bequeath unto my Daughter Mary Lock? the wife of Robert Lock? of the City of London the sum of three pounds in money to bee to her paid within the space of one yeare next after my decease Item I give devise and bequeath unto the three? Children of my said Daughter Mary Lock? to each of them twelve? pence? a piece in money Item I give devise and bequeath unto my daughter Ann the wife of James Worgan of Clowerwall all that my Cropp of Wheate now growing upon a piece of Land of mine Called and known by the
name of Stony Stile, and Also seven? pounds in money to bee to her paid within the space of one yeare next after my decease Item I give devise and bequeath unto John the son of my said Daughter Ann the wife of James Worgan aforesaid two Ewes? Item I give devise and bequeath unto the ffour Daughters of my son William Pitchard Mary, Ann, Hannah and Ffrances to each of them ffour Ewes? a piece Item I give devise and bequeath unto my Daughter Sarah the wife of Walter Knowles of Monmouth Major the sum of ffive pounds in money to bee to her paid within the space of one yeare next after my decease if shee my said Daughter Sarah shall …. Long live?, and if my said Daughter shall die & leave any issue of her body then my Will is that her issue shall have and enjoy the said five pounds Item all the rest of my goods household stuffe Chattels & Cattles whatsoever I give unto my son William Pitchard upon Condition that hee shall pay and discharge all my Debts Legacies and funeral expenses and I doo hereby nominate and appoint my said sone William Pitchard sole Executor of this my Last will and Testament in witness whereof I have hereunto Sett my hand and Seale the Day and yeare first above written

Arthur died in 1693, whilst residing in Coleford, Gloucestershire. His body was brought back to Newland for burial on 17 April 1693, perhaps to lie next to his wife.
