Ann PITCHER (abt. 1777 - 1843)

Ann PITCHER was born in Rockhampton, Gloucestershire, in about 1777, the daughter of Benjamin PITCHER and Margaret (nee WORGAN). She was baptized on 3rd May 1778 at St Oswald's Church, Rockhampton.

The Woolaston Rector's Census of 1828 shows that one Debara WORGAN was living with her niece, Ann PITCHER.

Deborah was the sister of Ann's mother, Margaret. Although we don't know when Ann first went to live with Deborah, perhaps Deborah took Ann in as a young girl as Ann had lost both parents by the time she was about 16. Ann may also have taken care of Deborah in her old age. By 1828, Deborah would have been 85.

Deborah wrote her will in 1816 and died in 1837. She left what she had to Ann. However, the will was not proved until either 1868 or 1878 [both dates are quoted in the documents], bypassing Ann, and in turn her sole executor, John PITCHER (probably Ann's brother), and finally being proved by his sole executrix, Sarah Ann PITCHER (most likely, John's daughter). The will reads as follows...

This is the last Will and Testament of me Deborah Worgan of the Parish of Woolastone in the County of Gloucester Spinster I give and bequeath unto my niece Anne Pitcher all my ready money and securities for money goods chattels and effects of what nature or kind soever and wheresoever situate To hold to her the said Ann Pitcher her executors administrators and assigns for ever And I do hereby nominate and appoint my said niece Executrix of this my will In …? Ann never married and as Deborah's will had not passed any property on to her (and in any case, the will was still to be proved), we find Ann was living with her brother, William PITCHER, and her sister-in-law, Sarah, in 1841. The census states the following...
