Caroline WORGAN (abt. 1805 - 1847)

Caroline WORGAN was born in Woolaston, Gloucestershire, in about 1805, and was the daughter of Edward WORGAN and Sarah (nee BANISTER). The details of her baptism in the Woolaston parish registers, as transcribed by www.forest-of-dean.net, are as follows...

Caroline was mentioned in her father, Edward WORGAN'S, will dated 1815...

"...The profits of all my said property both freehold and personal to be at the disposal of my beloved Wife Sarah Worgan If she continues in a state of Widowhood Otherwise this Clause Clause in my Will to be void and the said Trustees to receive the Profits of all my Estate both Personal and freehold for the maintenance of my Children John Banister, Mary Ann, Eliza Peace, William Anthony, Caroline, Edward, & James Henry Worgan all the Children of my wife lawfully begotten...

"...l Also give and devise unto my Daughters Mary Ann, Eliza Peace, and Caroline Worgan my Daughters the Sum of One Hundred Pounds lawful Money of the realm to each of them that is to say ...Caroline to receive her hundred pounds 3 years after the decease of my said Wife .."

Caroline also received a share in her uncle, John WORGAN's will, which was written in 1816 and was proved on 29th April 1817...

"...Residue & remainder of my Monies? Goods Stock Chattels & Effects of what nature or kind soever and wherever situate I give & bequeath unto my Nephews John Worgan Edward Worgan James Henry Worgan & my Nieces Mary Ann Eliza Peace Elizabeth & Caroline Worgan & to my Nephews Benjamin & William Pitcher & my Nieces Ann & Sarah Pitcher & Cecil Gunter in equal shares & proportions..."

Caroline also inherited from another uncle, William WORGAN, whose will, written in 1816, was proved on 16th May 1818...

"...All my Monies Goods Stock Chattels and Effects of what nature or kind Soever or wheresoever Situate or such share and Interest as I have therein I Give and bequeath unto my Nephews John Worgan Edward Worgan James Henry Worgan and my nieces Mary Ann Eliza Peace Elizabeth and Caroline Worgan and to my Nephews Benjamin and William Pitcher and my nieces Ann and Sarah Pitcher and Celia Gunter in Equal shares and proportions..."

On 29th December 1834, Caroline married Thomas Henry BANISTER in St Paul, Bristol.

Thomas died in 1840 and Caroline was listed on the 1841 census in Woolaston with her mother, Sarah JONES (having remarried), and her sister, Mary WORGAN. The word, 'Widow', appears in the profession column but has been crossed through.

Caroline died in 1847 and was buried in Woolastone with her father, and then her mother more than a decade later. Another family history researcher saw her grave several years ago and, at the time, noted down the details on the headstone...

Edward Worgan died 10th Ap 1815 aged 68, Caroline Banister dau died 11th Ap 1847 aged 42, also Sarah Jones relict of Edward Worgan died 20th Aug 1858 aged 58.

...Sarah's age should be 85, not 58, - the parish registers have 85.

The Woolaston Churchyard Survey carried out by the Woolaston Village History Group states the following...

In Memory of EDWARD WORGAN of this Parish who died the 10th of April 1815 Aged 68 Years
Caroline Banister Daughter of the above died April 11th 1847 Aged 42 Years
Also Sarah Jones relict of the above Edward Worgan died August 20th 1858 Aged 85 Years
