Dursley, Gloucestershire - Bigland Transcript of Monumental Inscriptions

A transcript for the town of Dursley taken from the book, 'Historical Monumental And Genealogical Collections Relative To The County Of Gloucester printed from the papers of the late Ralph Bigland'. (Contains 50 pages and over 900 names.)

The monumental inscriptions are, in the main, taken from the 17th and 18th centuries from both inside the church and from tombs and headstones within the churchyard. They include more than 700 names, many in family groups, usually with the age of the deceased and date of death. In addition, there is sometimes other information such as a description of the monument or a place of birth, etc.

Also contains the names of 172 bailiffs between 1567-1789 and 16 incumbents between 1541-1774.

A good number of these gravestones and monuments, transcribed in the late 18th century, have since disappeared or the memorial inscriptions have become illegible through weathering, making this a valuable source for family historians.
