Louisa Burgoyne, was summoned for assaulting William Burgoyne, on the 1st inst., and to show cause why she should not find sureties to keep the peace. Complainant is a fireman, at Wookey Mill, and on Sunday night, as he was proceeding to his work, about nine o'clock, his wife came to him at the bottom of Chamberlain Street, and "collared" him, put her fist in his face, saying she wanted some money. She used bad language, and continued to do so till they came to the road leading to Wookey. He was not living with his wife. He had led a most fearful life with her. On three Sundays out of four she had threatened to cut his throat and her own. She had sold her bed four times, and was continually assaulting him. She was addicted to drink, and had not been sober one Saturday night for the last seven years. John Chamberlain, who was in company with Burgoyne, going to work, corroborated as to the assault on Sunday night. Louisa Burgoyne was called, but, before she could give evidence, the defendant fainted away. On her recovery, witness spoke to her mother's drinking habits. Ordered to find two sureties in £10 to keep the peace for six months, or in default to be imprisoned for three months.
