Spouses: 

John and Mary's youngest son, John, was born a few months before his mother died. It seems he was adopted by Thomas and Mary Simpson, who in 1891, were living at 49 Mount Street, Devonport. John and Mary had previously lived in Mount Street and Thomas Simpson was a naval pensioner and perhaps a friend of John's father. Sadly, the boy died at the age of 9 years.
