The year of John's death on the headstone at Black Torrington is possibly an error. It states that John R. Horn died 10th August 1821, aged 46 years. However, there is no record of a burial at Black Torrington for him. John & Mary's son, Lewis, wasn't baptised until 1823 when John was described as a yeoman. It's possible John died elsewhere and perhaps the headstone was erected when Mary died in 1870 when the year of John's death might, by then, have been forgotten.
