Additional Information

Joseph HART:
Occupation: NOV 1838, Mariner 2

Hannah FRYER:

Although a baptism for Hannah has not yet been found, it seems likely that Hannah was the daughter of John Fryer and Prudence (nee Gower) for the following reasons. Firstly, Hannah's birthplace which is stated on the 1881 census is Pryden, Gloucestershire. In fact this would be Pridend near Arlingham where her parents were living when some of her siblings were baptized. Although it is known that her father, John Fryer, was a waterman in 1841, Hannah's marriage certificate shows John Fryer's profession as a mariner. This might have been the same job with a different name. Some of Hannah's children carried on family names; she had a brother called George and three sisters called Ellen, Phoebe and Eliza and Hannah's step-grandmother was named Caroline. Lastly, the witness at her wedding, Mary Ann Fryer, could well have been Hannah's older sister.
