If anyone reading this knows the whereabouts of the flying log books, or any other items, which can be attributed to Air Commodore C N ELLEN D.F.C., we'd be enormously grateful if you would get in touch via my contact page.

Cyril Norman Ellen was Harvey's grandfather and from time-to-time various military items come up for sale but we don't always see them before they are sold. If you have any items of interest and would like the satisfaction of returning them to his family, please would you consider offering us first refusal.

Cyril Ellen joined the Royal Naval Air Service (R.N.A.S.) in 1915, initially as a Chief Petty Officer (F4179), and gained a Commission at the end of 1916 in the Royal Naval Volunteer Reserve (R.N.V.R.). He proceeded to operate as an observer in the R.N.A.S. and entered the Royal Air Force (R.A.F.) on the first list in April 1918, earning the Distinguished Flying Cross in that year. He gained his Wings in 1921 and was the Squadron Leader of No. 5 (AC) Squadron based in Quetta in 1935 when the massive earthquake struck the region. Cyril Ellen remained in the RAF until he retired in 1946, retaining the rank of Air Commodore and afterwards, he held appointments with the Control Commission under the Foreign Office. Full details of his career can be viewed here.
