Charles went down in HMS Hermes on 9th April 1942 off Ceylon (present day Sri Lanka), during World War II. He is commemorated on the Plymouth Naval Memorial on Plymouth Hoe.

Nellie's father was a coastguard and apparently the coastguard cottages still exist in Queensboro where she was born in 1897. Nellie died on 2nd May 1966, aged 68, and is buried in Drake Memorial Park in Plymouth with her brother, Charles George Hibbitt.

Old Sulian in the Navy An old boy of the Bath City Secondary School, C.H. Martin, has been promoted to commissioned rank in the Royal Navy. He is serving on H.M.S. Malaya with the Mediterranean Fleet. On leaving school he entered the Navy, and rapidly rose in the lower ranks. His promotion to Sub-Lieutenant is a matter of great satisfaction to his old school. Sub-Lieut. Martin is the son of Mrs. S.L. and the late Mr. C.A. Martin, of Fair View, Twerton-on-Avon, and grandson of the late Mr. Charles Martin, Twerton-on-Avon.

Bathonian's Wedding at Plympton. ----------- At St. Mary's Church, Plymptom [sic], on Saturday, the wedding was solemnised of Mr. Charles Martin, only son of the late Mr. C.A. and Mrs. Martin, of Fair View, Twerton, and Miss Nellie Hibbitt, only daughter of Mr. and Mrs. A.C. Hibbitt, late of Plymouth. The bride, who was given away by her brother, Mr. Charles Hibbitt, looked charming in a gown of white georgette, pleated and beaded with sequins and pearls, her long veil forming a train. She carried a bouquet of white sweetpeas and pale pink and lemon tulips. The bridesmaids, Miss Alice Martin, sister of the bridegroom, and the Misses Lilian Bonney and Gertrude Taylor, friends of the bride, wore dresses of powder blue crepe-de-chine, with black hats, and carried bouquets of narcissi and pink tulips. Each wore a string of pearls, the gift of the bridegroom. Mr. Frank Parnham was best man. After the ceremony the wedding party motored to Plymouth, where a reception was held at Goodbody's Cafe. The honeymoon is being spent at Bude. There were many beautiful and valuable presents.
